There has been much speculation about why Alberto Del Rio became world champion heavyweight, but the real story behind the scenes is that Big Show was unable to reach an agreement with WWE on a new contract.
Big Show's contract was running out, the WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon made the decision to crown Del Rio as the new champion.
It was thought that the recording in Miami, would potentially be the last battle of Big Show in WWE.
Later in the week, the company and Big Show came to an agreement.
I heard from a source in the writing team that the company was very angry with the negotiations, due to complications brought to change history, but now that the river has been crowned "the plans have changed since Del Rio is the focus of future shows. "
